TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOU?
I am an entertainer, a recording performing Soul-R&B artist. a music entrepreneur, public speaker, a mother and a woman.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
Full time music for eight years, informally for over two decades..
WHAT IS YOUR MOST TALKED ABOUT RELEASE?
Hmmm. I think it was when I released my third single, Good Man in 2014. I got multiple award nominations, high profile performances, massive airplay. I broadened my fan base. It also established me as a vocalist to be reckoned with.
YOU JUST RELEASED A “HIT TRACK” AND CURRENTLY ON A NORTHERN TOUR TO PUBLICIZE IT, DO YOU INTEND TO REACH OUT TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY?
Yes o. Kale Ni is my new single. Its a thumping house beat. For the first time, I did a song with Hausa in it, which is the most widely spoken language in the northern part of Nigeria where I’m from.
It was produced by the incredibly talented producer called Chillz.
It makes you want to move.
The northern tour has been a blast. I’m covering Kaduna, Kano, Zaria, Jos, Bauchi, Abuja. The response has been overwhelming. I do plan to tour the East and South-South regions this year.
DO YOU HAVE FURTHER PLANS OF DOING A GLOBAL TOUR SOON?
Absolutely. I’m going in stages, National, Continental and then International.
Working on some collabos with artists from other African countries. Can’t mention the names just yet.
WHAT INSPIRED THE TRACK?
I have been experimenting with other sounds, working with different writers and producers. I wanted to try something more relaxed and fun. Less singing, less lyrics. Something catchy and easy to remember and sing along to. Kale Ni is the result of this process.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST AMAZING MOMENT(s) OF YOUR LIFE AS AN ARTIST?
For me it’s coming to the realisation that my God given creativity is boundless and endless. That all the music and ideas I need for my career is within and I just need to trust in it.
ANY EMBARRASING MOMENTS SO FAR? IF YES, PLEASE SHARE.
Ummm. I fell off stage during a performance. In front of press. It made it to YouTube.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY REGRETS SO FAR SINCE YOU BEGAN THIS JOURNEY?
Not regrets per say. I wish I understood that understanding the business of music is just as important as developing my craft.
Also trusting myself more.
WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
It isn’t one particular thing. It could be my experience, a movie, a song I heard, sometimes it’s just vibing in the studio with producers and writers.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?
I love what YSL said, “Fashions come and go but style is eternal”.
I’m not a fan of trends. I like pieces that stand the test of time, but If I see something in vogue that I like I’d rock it. My style is Modern Classic with a twist.
WHAT OTHER PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUR FANS? (ASIDES THE NEWEST RELEASE)
I plan on releasing lots more music. An Ep as well.
I’m putting together a series of intimate concerts for my fans. More of the media tours.
ASIDES SINGING, WHAT OTHER THINGS DO YOU DO?
I mentor young entertainers. I have started my organic products business. I host a brunch for younger ladies periodically called Brunch with Ruby Gyang.
