Nonye Goodie-Obi is the CEO of Nonnistic fashions. A former banker, a mathematician turned designer amongst others. Her brand name “Nonnistics” stuck from the nickname her husband calls her. Barely a year into her fully being in the fashion industry as a designer, she has styled an impressive number of A-list celebrities.
EM–HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?
NONNISTICS- After graduating from the university, I worked in the bank and also did a bit of event planning. It was during this period my decision on a client’s bridal outfit inspired my bridal collection, which I also gave up due to banking pressure. I got a production outfit in Nov 2017, renovated it and miraculously an express order came in from Porthacourt. We not only delivered excellently, but timely and that was how we started.
EM– WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
NONNISTICS- Evening Wears! I love the glam, the attention, everything that great evening dresses attract, whether on the red carpet, special events, birthday shoots etc.
EM– WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
NONNISTICS- Honestly, every piece I create for any of my clients, is a moment of exhilaration for me. But I can say, I am most excited when I see the evening wear I imagine becomes real
EM– WHAT’S BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
NONNISTICS— I haven’t really had any worst moments, although, in January this year, an elder sister to a very close friend needed 5 super dinner dresses between 6 working days for her party in the US. I was extremely busy because we were creating designs for Omotola’s birthday party and shoot as well. I accepted the other clients’ outfit because we were her last resort. Due to the pressure, we could not finish all and had to ship the remaining two after, despite working extra hours; also trying to meet up with the deadline for Omotola’s outfit that ended up being delivered half way into the shoot. Amazingly,the first client loved all her pieces with gratitude and Omotola also had all her outfits without any need for amendments. Those were near my worst moments.
EM–ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION?
NONNISTICS- With every sense of humility, 10 out of 10, but because I am a math professional, my sample size might affect the result sometimes, so I would say 9, to give room for those that probably had minor amendments and didn’t want to bother about it.
EM–WHICH CELEBRITIES HAVE WORN YOUR BRANDS?
NONNISTICS- Within this short time, they have been Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Eniola Badmus, Layole Oyatogun, Esther Audu- Ojire, Chiagoziem Nwakanma, Omoni Oboli. If I omitted anyone, I beg for forgiveness. It will be a pleasure to have more of them on our client list.
EM– HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK WITH PLEASURE?
NONNISTICS- I am so odd. I love my private life and crave sleeping a lot. I also love to watch movies, spend time with my hubby and children despite our busy schedules.
