Today is February 14, which is The day set aside to celebrate love. February 14 has been set aside each year for the celebration of Valentine’s Day. This year, there has been a wonderful Valentine’s Day celebration in Nigeria.
But before we give you the rundown of how your favorite Nigerian stars celebrated Valentine’s Day, here’s a little back story on the origin of Valentine’s Day.
The famous story about St Valentine is that in the third century AD he was a priest from Rome. Emperor Claudius II had forbidden marriage because he felt that married men made for bad soldiers. Valentine felt this was unfair so he broke the rules and secretly arranged marriages.
Valentine was thrown into prison and sentenced to death when Claudius found out. There he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and he sent her a love letter signed “from your Valentine” when he was taken to be killed on 14 February.
The first ever Valentine’s Day was celebrated 1,524 years ago! Which was in the year four hundred and ninety six.
