There are some classic indigenous snacks that are going nowhere, one of them is the very popular puff puff. Yes, this deep fried dough has been here for years and its taste never gets old, especially when you’re getting it right.

This is why we’ve brought to you this very simple puff puff recipe, so that you can make the magic happen right from your home and you won’t have to look out for that your customer anymore.

Ingredients needed for The Puff Puff Recipe

200g plain flour

Puff puff recipe flour

70g sugar


1/4 teaspoon salt

Puff puff recipe salt

160ml lukewarm water

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

Organic Raw Yeast for baking against a background

Oil for deep frying

1/4 tsp Nutmeg (Optional)

Steps for making the Puff Puff

1. In a mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg. You’ll want to make sure everything is mixed properly and no particle stands out.

2. In a small bowl mix the water with a teaspoon of sugar, add the yeast and stir well. Leave it for 5-10 minutes to activate.
3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and mix thoroughly.
4. Cover with cling film and leave to rise for 30-45 minutes. It should double in size.
5. Pour oil into a deep pan which should be at least 3 inches deep. Let the oil heat up and scoop the batter into the oil with your hand or spoon
6. Flip the  batter till it’s golden brown. Place on kitchen towel to drain excess oil.
7. You’re all good to go, serve while warm and enjoy your awesome homemade snack!
