It’s the start of a new year and we all have tasks, deadlines and sometimes tough bosses or colleagues at work. Starting and continuing your day on a positive note is paramount, regardless of the environment. So here are 5 ways to brighten your day and boost your mood for a more productive week.
- Play music to give yourself a boost.
It’s long been known that music can help improve the way you are feeling. Get a playlist of your favorite songs and put it on repeat. With this in mind, it will come as little surprise to learn that playing some of your favorite songs while you work could help make you feel better about your day and boost your mood significantly.
- Get Moving
If you are working from home, you can take a few laps at the local pool, a short walk or training all-out for a marathon. Studies have shown that exercising improves your physical and mental well-being.
3. Make fewer decisions
It’s said that Steve Jobs wore the same outfit daily so that he wouldn’t spend energy deciding what to wear. Decision fatigue is a reality as everyone you make can help deplete your cognitive resources.
With this in mind, consider how you could make fewer decisions. For example, decide what you will be having for lunch each day this week, and stick to it.
- Stay positive.
Instead of dwelling on what’s wrong, or what you feel is wrong, get into the habit of positive self-talk. Remember, the way you think affects the way you feel.
- Give yourself some credit.
Just because you’re having a tough day, or you’ve run into a string of bad luck doesn’t mean it has always been that way. List your achievements on a piece of paper, then take some time to be proud of what you’ve accomplished.
