My name is Oladapo Ayobami, the Creative Director of StatementbyBami. Statementbybami is a womenswear brand that offers ready-to-wear and bespoke services to make the average woman feel confident and beautiful in their outfits.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?
My fashion Journey began at my 300 level at my university. My mum would always take me to her tailor to get clothes sewn and she never got the designs right. I would take the clothes back to school and recut them and hand sew to my taste, it was a lot of work but it was worth it.
Shortly after graduation, right before my NYSC programme, I started training with a tailor for a period of six months where I learned the basics. I went to several other fashion schools in Port- Harcourt and Lagos respectively.
WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
I love exuding simplicity and class, so I try to project that into whatever I put on.
WHO ARE YOUR IDEAL TARGET AUDIENCE?
Fashion-inclined women who love to stand out with their outfits.
WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
As a growing fashion brand, nothing beats positive reviews from clients or a referral, it helps me stay focused and serves as a form of reassurance that I’m doing something right.
WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
Dealing with difficult clients can be a bad experience.
One experience that I’d always remember was when a client told me that she doesn’t need my services anymore even when we tried to compensate, it made me feel like I didn’t do enough to satisfy the said customer at the time.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RESPONSE FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION?
I would say 8.5
