TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BRAND
My name is Ifechukwu Anita, the creative director of Kaykay by Design. I am 24 years old and I am a graduate of Polymer and Textile engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. I am from Anambra state and I was born and raised in Lagos state.
Kaykay by Design is a womenswear fashion brand that deals in bespoke dresses ranging from bridals to evening dresses that speak elegance and class.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?
My journey began in secondary school when garment making was introduced as a trade subject in SS2. I hand-stitched a short dress and everyone was amazed, that was when I realized I had a passion for sewing. After graduation, I went to a roadside tailor to learn a thing or two but left 2 months later after gaining admission to study Engineering.
While in school, I started to make dresses for friends and coursemates with the little knowledge I had gained, and I was constantly pushing myself to learn more.
It was in my final years in school I decided that fashion was the career path I wanted to take and the rest, they say, is history.
WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
I would say Classy and Stylish with a hint of butterflies.
WHO ARE YOUR IDEAL TARGET AUDIENCE?
Stylish and confident young women who know what they want.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
The look on my client’s faces when they fit their dresses. They are always speechless and it melts my heart.WHAT’S BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
A client once sent back all the dresses I made her claiming she didn’t like them, I was really downcast but I put them up for sale and they sold out the next day.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION?
I would say a 9 because my clients mostly come with great reviews and they are my biggest marketers, always telling a friend to tell a friend.
WHAT MAKES YOUR BRAND DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
I would say the simplicity of my pieces; stylish, and elegant, but still maintaining simplicity. I like to think that less is more.

Always be ready to learn. The fashion space keeps evolving and has no bounds, so stay consistent because trust me, people are watching.
WHAT ADVICE WILL YOU GIVE TO START-UPS THAT HAVE SIMILAR VISIONS AS YOU DO?
Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough. Work hard, stay passionate and break boundaries. Don’t be in a hurry to make it big time, trust the process and everything will fall in line.

I love music a lot. I can’t work without it. My friends call me memory cards because I know a lot of songs by heart.
I am very handy, I can do a lot of things. I braid hair, I play the violin, I can fix almost anything and I draw pretty well too. I am a very passionate person, I put my all into everything I do because I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
I am a homebody. When I’m not working I’d rather stay in and see a movie than go out. I consider myself a comedian, there’s no dull moment with me because I’m definitely going to leave you in stitches.
