EM got the opportunity to have an interview with a the brand owner of Sophias wears who is renowned fashion designer in Cross River State.
It was quite an interesting one, let’s see her response to our questions asked.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
My name is Maryam sophia archibong so from Boki in Cross River state, I am married to mr Archibong Eso with two kids, and I have a BSc in biochemistry.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?
My journey started after I graduated, and I use a friend who charged a whole lot, for just simple styles so I thought to myself why don’t I learn this so I can save enough money. But after a while, I relocated to Enugu, and my landlady had a machine and I used hers to perfect my skills for free, and after Nysc had no job, so I bought a few machines and started sewing from the house.
WHO ARE YOUR IDEAL TARGET AUDIENCE?
Young ladies. Who loves trendy outfits.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
When I design a style for a customer and they love it, knowing fully well you delivered perfectly. The excitement that comes with when a customer gives you positive reviews.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?
Having a style of a size 6 and a customer is a 10/12. And trying to explain to the customer that a particular style won’t suit your customer but they insist on it and the fittings don’t come out as expected
ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION?
I would say 8/9
WHAT MAKES YOUR BRAND DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
The relationship between myself and my customer is top-notch, we give you all the attention you need.

I would say consistency and keep learning.

Be consistent in whatever you are doing, and learn as much as you can, the fashion world is ever-evolving so always update your skills.
