This is one of the first things I ask my online clients. It speaks to picturing your body goals in your mind and working towards it. Today, we are fixating on something else though. That you cannot have a pear shaped body and have an hourglass shape goal. Your goal must align with your body type.

In fitness lingo, there are 3 different body types and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. There is the Ectomorph, the Mesomorph and the Endomorphs. Other categorizations have been done using shapes and fruits, so there are the bananas, the apples the hourglass etc, but the concept remains the same. There are also people who have attributes of two body types, but one must be dominant.

Ectomorphs typically have slender limbs and delicate bone structures, they are naturally lean and skinny and no matter how hard they eat, they won’t pile on the weight because their metabolism is fast, they usually require high carbs and calories.

Mesomorph on the other hand are naturally muscular and athletic, they have strong, hard bodies and gain muscle easily, though they can easily gain or lose weight. Their shoulders are broad and their bodies are square shaped. For nutrition, they need moderate carbs and calories.

Endomorph are naturally strong and possess large joints, they have less defined muscles and appear thick and stocky, they easily gain muscles and fat and have round physiques. Their metabolism is very slow and they require fewer carbs and calories more than any other body type.


Even if you are currently out of shape, your body type will become obvious as you check the above attributes and the pictures below. And as you get in shape, over time, you are able to carve out the best version of YOU that you can. You owe yourself that much.

Now that you know your body type, you should figure out the best diet and portions for your body type based on your carbs and calories requirements. Know that no matter what your body type is, your beautiful lean and toned figure is achievable if you follow the right fitness plan. An out of shape endomorph(hourglass shape) for instance needs to do more of cardio workouts while an ectomorph (ruler shape) will need to fall in love with weight training in order to gain some curves.
