We’re kicking off the year by drawing strength from the amazing story of Busola Dakolo “The Voice of Courage”. Busola Dakolo Covers EM January Issue and she shares her journey to finding her voice in the midst of adversity.
Busola Dakolo is a portrait and lifestyle photographer, and she is married to Timi Dakalo who is a foremost musical artist in Nigeria and they are blessed with 3 children. She is a graduate of the Geology and Mining department of the University of Ilorin. Busola started her career in the oil and gas industry then later moved to the banking industry, and then she becoming a stay at home mum, taking care of her children.
Her passion for empowering young people for viability led her to establish Skills Kitchen, a skills acquisition and development platform. Skills Kitchen, helps people discover, learn and develop a functional skill online.
Last year, she broke her silence on how she was raped as a teenager, in an interview with Chude Jideonwo of YNaija. The interview in which she spoke at length about her ordeal, started a movement on social media.
Her courage to speak up in the face of disbelief and animosity has given a lot of rape survivors hope to speak out and seek help. It has also shed more light on the “blame culture” when a victim of rape is blamed rather than helped.
Her story continues to remain a source of encouragement to many, who have faced various forms of domestic violence.
The EM January issue also takes a dive into current fashion trends that are here to stay, style tips for ladies by fashion and lifestyle blogger Frances Theodore, the colorful new collection by Ex Big brother housemate Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan and so much more.
Also in this issue, find out who our Exquisite man of the month is… Hint: He’s a tall, dark and handsome actor 😉
