It seems like the award-winning actress isn’t done with magazine covers just yet. While we still haven’t gotten over Zendaya’s Elle UK cover, the 24-year-old Hollywood star also appears on the cover of Essence Magazine’s 50th anniversary closing month issue.
This issue highlights her accomplishments, interlinking it with her efforts to honour those who came before her, while also paving a way for those after, being a black woman that many look up to.
In the shoot for the Essence Magazine’s 50th anniversary cover, she channels legendary black supermodel, Donyle Luna’s old photoshoots in her honour.
When asked about the support that Black people in Hollywood show each other, she said
“I think what’s slowly starting to happen is, artists like Issa Rae and Lena Waithe have created opportunities that have resulted in more of us being in these rooms. That’s such a special feeling, and I think it’s definitely changing the idea that there can only be “one at a time,” which is false. I love to see that genuine love and respect for each other’s work. I hope that we continue to expand that in all kinds of beautiful ways because I think we’re on a really good path.”
