Never in the history of Nigeria or in this days of social media had we seen such a great gathering of not only end-users and stakeholders in the beauty industry but also aspiring individuals wishing to pursue careers in the Beauty therapy sector during the “Beauty Meets Education Series” organised by the Beauty Therapy Institute and The Beauty Reports.
Split into a two day event, day one was essentially packed with speakers the likes of Sandy Fuhr (ROY) – Founder Beauty Therapy Institute (BTI), Joanna Stamps, Sorbet Culture Manager, Dr Eyitope Ibare-Jones, Director and educator at BTI Lagos, , Pamela Olatunji Bello, CEO, Bnatural Spa, Barrow Omagbitse, Strategy Consultant & Organisational Development Specialist, Dr. Toyin Odunuga, CEO Dr Botanics, Caroline Ebbah, Bioviva Spa’s Chief Creative & Technical Director, Fikemi Opawunmi, Lead Educator at BTI Lagos, aside from the two Co- conveners, Tayo Afolabi (CEO,World PR Media and Founder of The Beauty Reports) and Dr. Ifeoma Abajue (Principal and Director, BTI Lagos).
Highlights of the day included the fact that the Beauty industry in
Nigeria has reached a point where “standardisation is key to its growth” as echoed by Dr. Odunuga and Mr Barrow. Pamela Olatunji-Bello also did not fail to note the fact that “women and people in general never stop trying to look good and feel good and so the beauty industry has a key role to play in achieving that. She also further warns that until “standardisation and accountability takes place, we have a long way to go yet in Nigeria.
Other highlights was a brief speech by Tayo Afolabi whose tea parties, Luxury Beauty Brunches as well as the Mercedes Benz World PR Beauty Business Week are always an avenue to profile the trends and stakeholders in the beauty industry, focused on the growth of the anti-aging products and services market, her talk highlighted when a woman should start considering that type of skincare, players in that particular sector in keeping with the day two Tea Party theme on “Anti-aging.
The presentation by The Beauty Therapy Institute was also one not to miss as the team led by Dr. Abajue and Dr. Jones took the large audience through the essential core of how and why they provide trainings to individuals who want to proceed with a career in Beauty Therapy and also Spa and Beauty Rooms who wish to train staff to international standards.
The culmination of events on the day was the awarding of scholarships to three ladies who met the requirement as publicized on social media pages, @btilagos and @thebeautyreports. 2018 is definitely one to watch as key stakeholders are gearing up to change the status quo.
