Last night, Marc Jacobs gathered a genre-spanning crowd including Cardi B, Grace Coddington, Lourdes Leon, and a medical boot-clad Real Housewife at the New York Public Library for his off-calendar fall 2024 show. While the VIP looks paid homage to Jacobs’s 40-plus-year career—many of them in the designer’s precarious Kiki boots—it was Cardi B’s floral dress that demanded our attention.
For the occasion, which Vogue’s Nicole Phelps declared full of “main character energy,” the rapper dressed the part of a super bloom in a voluminous dress covered in whispy, oversized pansies in pale yellow, ochre, and all shades of purple. To further its airiness, the dress was festooned with ostrich feathers, mimicking floral stamen.
While the look may have been a far cry from other guests’ (including Leon’s cutout-heavy black mini dress, or actor Talia Ryder’s lacy slip dress), Cardi still added some signature Marc Jacobs touches. Coordinating with the yellows in her dress, she wore a pair of opaque, canary yellow tights, which also matched her translucent yellow frames. And no look is complete without a pair of Kikis. Cardi donned the towering platforms in white—a true feat, but nothing she can’t handle.
