Nissi’s ‘Ignite’ is an earthy soul song that conveys a message of inspiration, aspiration, and hope. Coming after Trouble and Judi visuals, Ignite is the third video and visuals to the title track of her current EP. This video celebrates primarily, the young African woman and the beauty of starting over.
In her signature braids, Nissi embellishes the simplicity in everyday life and the challenges we face on a daily basis.
The video is easy on the eye with groovy dance moves and in familiar surroundings, there is a warmth and colour that drives the message home. Another part of the ‘Ignite’ visual that stands out is the true celebration of girl power and the positivity of turning a new leaf, of forging ahead no matter what life throws at you.
Shot in London and directed by Mollana Borke of JM films production, this is a visual that is self-explanatory in addressing the realities of life in Nigeria and is done by sharing our narratives.
According to Nissi, she says “I wanted this video to capture different forms of Resilience.” The visuals move through different perspectives from the boxer who is training for the fight of her life, to the woman who finally gets the courage to leave an abusive relationship, to the girl who isn’t socially accepted but lives on loving herself regardless. It’s a feel-good vibe because there is no greater beauty than consciously rising above every obstacle”
For the eclectic Nissi, her musical and vocal strength comes from exploring different rhythms which have birthed her signature fusion sound: a delightful melange of highlife, afro-punk, and afro-jazz. This gives her the untenable and remarkable ability to create a first-class music structure centred on neoteric sounds.
