The Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) is proud to announce the election of Ijeoma Akunyuli and Otto Orondaam to its Alumni Board. Joining a distinguished group of eight new members from across the globe, they will serve a four-year term, playing a key role in connecting the vast HKS alumni network.
Akunyuli and Orondaam bring impressive backgrounds to the board. Akunyuli, the daughter of the esteemed Dr. Dora Akunyili, is a history-maker herself. In January 2023, she became the first Black chief medical officer at the Jersey City Medical Center (RWJ Barnabas Health) in the United States.
Orondaam, a social entrepreneur and community leader, is the founder of Slum2School Africa. This impactful organization champions education for children in underserved communities and slums.
Steering the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Network
The HKS Alumni Board plays a vital role in fostering a strong and engaged alumni community. Board members will work alongside the Alumni Relations Office to:
- Champion the HKS Mission: Advocate for the school’s values and goals on a global scale.
- Strengthen Alumni Connections: Promote interaction and collaboration among alumni around the world.
- Enhance Communication Channels: Ensure effective communication between alumni and the school.
- Advise the Dean: Provide valuable insights and perspectives from the alumni network.
The board itself is a collaborative body, structured through committees focusing on engagement, connections, recognition, governance, and communication. This structure allows board members to leverage their expertise and contribute meaningfully to the HKS community.
