On the 4th of February, Exquisite Magazine owners of the Exquisite Magazine Cancer Care foundation, hosted an EMAC SmearIt walk which is a Cervical Cancer awareness walk campaign and a free screening session for all participants.

The EMAC SmearIt walk started with a welcome speech given by Founder and CEO of EMAC, Tewa Onansaya, who briefly educated all on cervical cancer and the need for more awareness in Nigeria, followed by a brief warm-up session by Akeem of the Hit Squad.

At exactly 8:15 am the EMAC SmearIt Walk began, we rallied from the EKO hotel situated at Adetokunbo Ademola Street at VI through Ajeso Adeogun street, educating the masses and giving out flyers.

They took a turn at Adeogun Street, there was never a dull moment, we had an amazing MC (Toyin Ayodele) and DJ and everyone had their bottle of Nirvana water to keep them hydrated during the walk, then we proceeded back to the venue, carried out a few body stretch exercises to ease our muscles.

We got seated for the sensitisation program, hosted by nurse Lucy from Maycenter Health Care,  where she educated us on everything we needed to know about cervical cancer, prevention, and treatment methods.

It was an enlightening session, I even got to know more about cervical cancer.

During the awareness session, VIA screening (Visual inspection of the cervix with acetic acid) of the masses also took place at a medical boot stationed at the venue.

This free screening part of the EMAC Foundation is called the Smearathon, a day of back to back screening.

Everyone got a gift bag or won something. Finger foods were supplies by Saheeto and Chow Noodles.

And at the end of the program, every volunteer was given a certificate of participation signed by Tewa Onasanya founder of Exquisite Magazine Cancer Care Foundation.

We all left educated, screened and happy! It was an exciting experience and I’m looking forward to the 2024 walk. Thanks to Exquisite Magazine, Thanks to Smearit, Thanks to The Dozy Mmbobuosi Foundation for providing free screening to all.
