Exquisite magazine had the opportunity to interview Sinikiwe Kademaunga, a lady who inspires people facing challenges in life. Let’s read up on her story!
EM- PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
Sinikiwe Kademaunga is an inspirational content creator. She runs a youtube channel where she shares everything about her life as a way of motivating and inspiring other people who are facing challenges in life. Sinikiwe is a social worker by profession but currently not practising. She currently runs a small cosmetic business. She is also a wife.
EM- HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THIS FIELD?
I have been doing content creation since 2016 when I was in my third year in university.
EM- WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO INTO THIS FIELD?
I struggled a lot with body confidence in my teenage years and part of my early 20s. I used to search on the internet for some inspiration but never found any. The only time I saw persons with disabilities on the internet or television it was mostly for something negative.
I wanted to see persons with disabilities living their own life without the media narrating their stories for them. I wanted to see them doing their day-to-day life. Overall, I wanted to see persons with disability’s success stories.
Therefore, I decided to be the example I wanted to see, that is how I decided to start my blog and be in the media space.
EM- TIPS ON HOW YOU STARTED?
Sharing your personal life with the world is very difficult, it is scary and sometimes “unsafe”. People will always have their opinions on everything you share. Hence, you need to be confident in your own story before picking up that camera, phone etc. When people attack you need to stand your ground. In short, I would say be confident in your own story and be prepared.
EM- YOU ARE A FORCE TO RECKON WITH IN THE SOCIETY, HOW DID YOU GROW TO THIS LEVEL?
Just being authentic and sticking to my purpose of why I started.
EM: HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
Success is very personal and subjective. Personally, success is working up every day doing what I love and enjoy, and making a living out of it (content creation).
Currently, I am thriving to be at peace and have better mental health, if I achieve that I will be the most successful person around.
EM: IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO START YOUR CAREER OVER AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
I would start earlier, without doubting myself too much. I would believe in myself and the support I received from people around me. I second-guessed myself a lot a few years before I started my career. I wish that was not the case.
EM- WHAT SETS YOU APART?
This is a difficult question to answer myself. However, I think I have always been myself since I started myself. I know in content creation there can be pressure sometimes to do what other content creators are doing. I have tried my best to stick to my purpose and be authentic.
EM- YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO MANY, WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
My journey really inspires me. if I look back at how I started and where I am now I feel motivated to work hard.
EM- WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
To continue being a better person each and every day.
EM- IF YOU WERE TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT YOURSELF WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
I was here.
