The Woven Threads III by Lagos Fashion Week is underway in Lagos, Nigeria and one of the brands that are showcasing their designs is today’s EM business feature. Kadiju Official is a Nigerian based fashion brand that creates uplifting and effervescent pieces handmade in their Lagos Atelier.
Launched in July of 2021, Kadiju was introduced as a women-led fashion brand creating carefully made pieces as a medium for self-expression. Driven by the desire to redefine sartorial beauty through maximalist creations and conscious promotion, this brand has expanded conversations around fashion. Owned and creatively directed by Oyindamola Aleshinloye, the roots of this brand are definitely worth telling. Immersed in so much culture and creativity from her Nigerian-Ghanian roots and Canadian background, launching a brand that serves as an expression of a life full of effervescence and maximalism came easily.
With a key focus on waste reduction and social responsibility, all pieces from Kadiju are a combination of stock fabrics and recycled materials, locally sourced in Lagos, from the end of the line/deadstock fabric. In 2021, the two-month-old brand showcased her designs at the Lagos Fashion Week. The collection was created entirely out of fabric waste, exploring through colors and a juxtaposition in cuts and silhouettes, environmental activism, and liberation. Before this collection, the fashion brand released a debut collection upon launch; The Organized Chaos collection which comprises the Purple Lotus Blouse, and The Asymmetrical Needle-Felt Dress.
One detail worthy of note about Kadiju is the meticulous attention to detail with which these fashion pieces are handcrafted. From the A-Line Skirt with a vivid fuchsia hue, tailored in a form-fitting needle felt fabric to the latest release for the Lagos Fashion Week, Woven Threads Campaign, the Cropped Lotus Top, all these pieces show the extent to which kadiju goes to create detailed pieces.
