Victor Abimbola Olaiya, also known as Dr. Victor Olaiya, was a Highlife-style Nigerian trumpeter. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he became extremely famous in Nigeria.
He died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, after a brief illness. His death was announced by Bimbo Esho, the managing director of Evergreen Music Company Ltd.
The music veteran was born in Calabar, Cross River State on the 31st of December 1930 but comes from Ijesha-Ishu, Ekiti State.
During his long ad successful career, the highlife legend had some hit tracks like Omopupa, Aigana, Pambotoriboto, Opataritius, Mo fe Muyan, Jemila, Kosowo l’ode Baby Jowo, among others.
He will be remembered by his family and all the lovers of his music.
