Beyond the runway, access to market opportunities has long been at the forefront of Lagos Fashion Week’s mandate. This year, Lagos Fashion Week partners with KOIBIRD, an innovative concept store, featuring 30 African brands in their space.
The line-up includes brands and designers scouted through Lagos Fashion Week, such as: AAKS, Aga Concept, Anyango Mpinga, Clan, Christie Brown, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Kiko Romeo, Lisa Folawiyo, Loza Maléombho, Orange Culture, Rich Mnisi, RNR Luxury, Studio One Eighty Nine and WAFFLESNCREAM.
Since its opening in 2018 KOIBIRD has curated seasonal edits that expose fashion enthusiasts to exclusive collections from Korea, California and now Africa. This latest edit celebrates the design talent and vibrant spirit that has become indicative of the African designers featured at Lagos Fashion Week since its launch in 2011.
Founder and Creative Director of KOIBIRD, Belma Gaudio commented on her first Lagos Fashion Week experience last year, “African brands are making waves and we were blown away by the talent, diversity and energy of the show. We fell in love with brands from a number of Africa’s fashion capitals who take inspiration from their culture. The collections were all so fresh that it was so hard to choose which brands to bring back to the UK.”
Omoyemi Akerele, Founder of Lagos Fashion Week stated that “At Lagos Fashion Week, we have worked to consistently position Lagos as the melting pot for creativity on the continent. The opportunity to collaborate with a unique store such as KOIBIRD, that has firmly entrenched itself as the go-to destination for curated pop-ups from different parts of the world, is an exciting one.”.
Lagos Fashion Week’s access to market initiatives are facilitated by Style House Files with support from Nigeria Export Promotion Council.
