The Exquisite Magazine annual Cancer Events are held to increase the awareness for cervical and in the process promoting our partners and sponsors.
Every hour in Nigeria, women die of cervical cancer, a disease that is largely preventable thanks to annual screenings and HPV vaccination. Unfortunately, a lot of people; do not go for their yearly screenings, have not had the vaccination and do not know that early detection is key to increasing survival rates. It is very important that we educate everyone about the disease, its symptoms and ways to prevent and treat it.
Every year exquisite has been able to screen thousands of people free of charge at the EMAC walk/Smearathon. The exquisite magazine annual cancer walk was created with the aim of screening more people and vaccination for young children in the less privileged areas. We aim to help raise more awareness for cervical cancer prevention and highlight the importance of early detection through regular screening.
The EMAC Cancer Prevention Week which holds every January seeks to spread the word about the important steps that women need to take to stay healthy and encourage parents about how important it is for Pre-teens to get HPV (Human papilloma virus) vaccine, both girls and boys.
There are lots of ways you can be involved during the month of January;
Take part in our #GetScreened selfie campaign that we launched in September 2015. This will be a poster with your picture and a short quote encouraging girls and women to get screened, go for regular screening and also take the vaccines. ALL THROUGH JANUARY
Take part in our #Smearit selfie campaign which we started in January 2017, where you would smear your lipstick on your face to depict the smear test that is one of the methods of screening. This is to also encourage women to go and get screened. (We will provide guidance, should you require this, for your quote and #smearit selfies).
