A CSR INITIATIVE OF EQUITY ASSURANCE: CERVICAL CANCER WALK BY OPTIMAL CANCER CARE FOUNDATION
Every year, January is set aside as Cervical Cancer awareness month for individuals, health professionals, advocates and organizations to create awareness on cervical cancer, means of prevention and the importance of early detection.
To mark this year’s cervical cancer awareness month, Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on cancer awareness and care held a sponsored awareness walk on Saturday 27th of January 2018 to educate men and women alike on cervical cancer prevention.
The walk which held in Surulere, Lagos had participants walking through the major streets of Surulere- from Bode Thomas, through Adeniran Ogunsanya, Shitta, Alhaji Masha Road, Western Avenue, National Stadium, Teslim Balogun Stadium and back through Akerele roundabout to Bode Thomas Street.
The walk was well attended by members of staff of OCCF, Equity Assurance PLC, Managed Healthcare Services (HMO), volunteers from UNILAG and MEDILAG and members of the public who registered as participants.
It commenced with a brief speech from the medical director of OCCF, Dr Femi Olaleye who applauded participants for partaking in a good cause and encouraged them to spread the news of cervical cancer prevention and early detection as they commence the walk.
The walk witnessed participants distributing fliers, engaging individuals in discussions on prevention and early detection of the disease as well as the opportunity for free cervical screening at the foundation every Friday.
Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, through the support of Equity Assurance Plc and Managed Healthcare Services Ltd following the walk also offered free cervical screening for registered women that day.
Celebrities endorsed the walk and Humble smith, the popular R&B Afro-pop musician turned up with hundreds of participants.
