According to Page Six, a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steve Cochran ruled, on Wednesday, that Kim Kardashian has been declared legally single from Kanye West. She would no longer have the “West” in her name, just Kim Kardashian.
While her lawyer, Laura Wasser was in court, reports have it that Kim appeared at the hearing via video conference from the closet in her home and Kanye was absent.
TSR reports stated, before the hearing, Kanye made a last-minute change with his legal team by dropping his lawyer and hiring attorney Samantha Spector, who said her client had “no issues” with Kardashian getting her name back, but was more concerned with his “assets and interest.”
Kim’s attorney, Laura Wasser, wasn’t affected by the last-minute change and continued to fight for Kim by objecting to having her client’s trust frozen, arguing that the mogul uses the trust for her business. The judge sided with Kim’s team on the issue.
Both parties were later asked by the judge when they would like to return to discuss other matters. Spector stated, “There are many custody issues that need to be worked out,” but Kim’s attorney disagreed, saying, “I don’t think so, your Honor, there hasn’t been any issues in the past year.”
The judge granted Spector’s 120 days, of which both parties are to return for a status conference hearing on August 5th.
