“Lola your make up is fine!” one of my friends shouts as I take out my make-up brush from my clutch bag for the hundredth time to powder my T zone.
Up there with the things I hate is….melted/extremely oily make up. I have this fear that as I go through the day in this Lagos heat that my make up may take on a different form if I do not constantly check it.
I know I am not alone when I say that “melted” make up is something most women dread!!
To be honest, even when I think my face is melted, oily and out of place I look in the mirror and I feel quite impressed by how my make-up still looks reasonably flawless.
Everyone has a certain look they prefer, I have friends who like a dewy look, some that like a moisturised glow, I like a very matte make up finish.
Here are the top 4 ways I ensure I get the most out of my make-up. These tips help, no matter your skin type!
1. Always begin with a moisturiser.
By prepping your skin correctly with a good quality moisturiser, your skin will be well hydrated and it’ll delay your skin getting dry or oily; which we know can ruin your make up. If you have oily skin choose a mattifying mostriser and if you have dry skin select an intensely hydrating moisturiser.
The correct moisturiser can put your skin in the best condition possible when putting your make up on for the day.
2. Apply a foundation under your primer.
You may already know from my previous features that I am very passionate about primer. It is one beauty product that is worth every single penny. A primer doubles up as something your foundation can stick to whilst also being a protective layer between your skin and foundation.
Primer gives your make-up the perfect base to sit on. There is pretty much a primer that will suit all skin types.
(And don’t forget to prime your lips! Yes your lips! Priming your lips is very important, just like your face you want to make sure you moisturise your lips prior, then before putting on your lipstick, apply translucent lip primer. This will noticeably help your lipstick stay on longer while also preventing the lipstick from staining your lips.
3. Set your concealer right.
Setting and blending your concealer right will help solve the problem or creasing and clumping throughout the day. If you use a translucent setting powder as soon as you’re done blending your concealer into your skin, you should enjoy a longer period of time with perfect concealer.
4. Always set your make up with translucent setting powder or setting spray.
This is a crucial step and probably the most effective step in getting your make up to last longer throughout the day.
Ensure everything is exactly how you wish it to look because after its brushed or sprayed on it will be harder to make adjustments.
Setting powders and sprays are used as a protective layer between your foundation and your hands, making your make up last longer.
Now watch your make up last the whole day!!
