Who decided that pink belongs to younger women, sequins should be packed away after a certain birthday, or that bold fashion choices have an age limit? Where did we get these rules? And who said we had to keep them?
Style doesn’t have an age limit. You don’t clock out of colour at 30. You don’t hand in your heels at 40. You don’t lose your right to play with style because your birth year changed. Style is about confidence, plain and simple.
The rule book is outdated
At some point, someone decided certain colours, cuts, and trends belonged to specific age groups. Bright red? Too much. Leather jacket? Save it for later. Flattering skirt? Grow out of it.
Those lines were drawn by fear, not fashion. Fear of standing out. Fear of being judged. Fear of looking like you’re “trying too hard”. Throw the list away. The only question that matters is: do you love how you look in it?
A wrap dress is flattering whether you’re 28 or 68. Wide-leg trousers are chic on a student and on a CEO. A tailored suit hits differently when you wear it with your head up. Fit, fabric, and how you carry yourself do the work. The number on your cake does not.
If you love a thin top and your mirror says yes, wear it. If you love a midi skirt and it makes you feel elegant, wear it. If you love oversized shirts and they feel like you, wear them too. Your body is a canvas to be adorned with the best art. Trends will come and go. That’s the fun of it. Take what feels like you and leave the rest.
At the end of the day, style is personal. It is an expression of the colours, silhouettes and fabrics that to the wearer. The people whose style stays with us are not remembered because they dressed according to their age. They are remembered because they dressed with confidence.
Fashion allows you to experiment, celebrate yourself and enjoy getting dressed, regardless of the number attached to your age. The next time you find yourself reaching for something and wondering whether you are too old for it, ask a different question instead. Does it make you feel like yourself? If the answer is yes, then that is all the approval you need.
There is no age to stop having fun with fashion. There is no age to start. If it makes you feel bold, beautiful, and like yourself, it belongs to you. The yellow top that made your skin glow at 25, still helps you shine at 55. The leather jacket you stopped the tracks with at 22 still turns heads at 62.
So, wear the red lipstick. Try the lime green blouse. Style the gold heels to brunch on a Tuesday because you can. Your face, your mood, and your light are what bring your clothes to life. Your age is just cherry on top…
