On Monday 5 October, Zotmann stepped onto one of the world’s most recognisable financial stages. Leading the company’s presence were Victor Nwokeji, Executive Vice Chairman of Zotmann International Limited and Zotmann Mining Limited, and Amaka Nwokeji, Managing Director of Zotmann Mining. Mr Nwokeji rang the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange, marking the end of the trading day during the FLAIR Global Summit reception. Exquisite Magazine was in attendance, with founder Dr Tewa Onasanya among the guests.
The closing bell is a ceremonial tradition that gives companies and business leaders a moment to mark milestones before the global investment community. For Mr Nwokeji, the occasion carried a message beyond the company. He described it as an honour and as a statement that African businesses belong where global capital meets global opportunity.
His address centred on responsibility. Zotmann, he said, is committed to building mining companies that are sustainable, that create jobs, develop skills and strengthen local industries, and that deliver lasting value to shareholders and host communities alike. Growth, he stressed, must be matched by transparency, sound governance, credible geological evidence and respect for the communities in which a company operates.
He also spoke directly to investors, inviting them to visit African markets, study the projects and judge opportunities on governance, quality and performance. African entrepreneurs were challenged in turn to raise their standards and build businesses that can earn and keep international confidence.
For this magazine, the most resonant part of his speech was the link between commerce and people. Zotmann is a partner of the FLAIR Global Summit, supporting initiatives that empower women and girls, and Mr Nwokeji was clear that no economic transformation is meaningful if a large part of society is left behind. It is a view that sits comfortably alongside the summit’s own theme and the work Dr. Onasanya champions through Exquisite Magazine and the ELOY Awards Foundation.
His closing words were confident: “Africa has the resources. Africa has the talent. Africa has the ambition.” Standing at the London Stock Exchange, with a partner investing in women as well as minerals, Zotmann made the case that Africa’s future will be built on both.
