Consider this a formal request.
Close the laptop. Turn the phone face down. Draw the curtains. Set an alarm if you must, and then lie down in the middle of the afternoon. Just, lie down.
Not because you are exhausted beyond function. Not because you have collapsed under pressure. But because you are human, and human beings require intervals of ease. Sleep is not a reward for overwork. A nap is not a sign that you have failed to manage your time.
There is often a feeling of guilt that creeps in when you are not doing anything. You start to think of the emails unanswered, the deadlines pending, the people who seem to be moving faster than you. Your mind keeps a running list of things you haven’t, things you have done, things you could have done better. It’s endless.
We often speak about ambition, output, discipline. We rarely speak about restoration with the same admiration. Yet one sustains the other. The sharpest thinking is not produced by a mind that has been stretched without relief. Sound judgment does not emerge from constant stimulation. Even joy becomes thin when it is layered over fatigue.
Even brief moments of rest make a difference. You notice things you missed before. Your thoughts settle. You feel lighter. It is easier to focus, to think clearly, to respond rather than react. This is what rest does, it refreshes.

So celebrate it.
Declare an evening where the only agenda is sleep. Let a Saturday afternoon pass without productivity. Step away from noise. Give your nervous system a break from constant alertness. You will not lose your drive. You will not forfeit your goals. You will return clearer.
Rest is not the opposite of effort. It’s what makes the effort sustainable.
So, today, take it seriously. Take it lightly. Take a nap…because sometimes, you just need to rest.
