Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director and writer of “Squid Game”, has confirmed that Netflix’s most-watched show would be back for a second season. Yes, you heard that right! Squid Game Season 2 is coming to your screenens soon
“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice!” Hwang told the Associated Press during a red carpet appearance for the show on November 8. “But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this. Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”
Over the past month, the South Korean series has amassed popularity, hitting views of 111 million Netflix accounts in 28 days, keeping the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s top 10 most popular shows list in 94 countries around the world.
Hwang Dong-hyuk noted that based on the success of the series and due to massive demand for it and love that followed the first season’s release, the team is left with no choice but to create Squid Game Season 2 , even though most South Korean series end at just a season. As a result, Hwang seemed to characterize Squid Game 2 as the result of demand, rather than necessity.
Squid Game centres on a contest of debt-ridden people who play a set of children’s games that have life-or-death stakes, in order to win the huge cash prize of ₩45.6 billion.
