Over 100 women resident in Agege community of Lagos state will enjoy free cervical cancer screening scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Family Planning Care Centre, Agege, Lagos. The project tagged “SMEARATHON” and “SMEARIT” is an Exquisite Magazine Annual Cancer (EMAC) event.
The Founder/CEO of Exquisite Magazine Services Limited, Tewa Onasanya announced that all hands are on deck to ensure that the cervical cancer screening which is sponsored by Dreg Waters Petroleum and Logistics Limited is a remarkable success.
“Report has it that every hour, one woman dies of cervical cancer in Nigeria, mostly due to ignorance, and this campaign aims to prevent it and reduce death rates in the country,” Onasanya explains.
She added that, “The EMAC walk, tagged “SMEARATHON” focuses on raising awareness on cervical and breast cancer, while “SMEARIT” provides free cervical cancer screening for low income earners and less privileged women in rural communities.”
On her part, the Chief Executive of Dreg Waters Petroleum and Logistics, Damilola Owolabi noted that, “Dreg Waters is excited to partner with EMAC in the cervical cancer awareness and screening campaign. We are aware that cervical cancer is a critical issue in society, this informs our commitment to this project as our corporate social responsibility.”
Over the years, EMAC have continually engaged women in different communities to participate in the campaign, so as to ensure that cervical cancer is totally eradicated in Nigeria.
