THE Emmy Awards is the Oscars of the television world – a night when America’s small screen stars take the focus from their big screen counterparts.
Ensuring there was plenty of drama on the red carpet for 2014, this year’s best dressed eschewed the sartorial safety of the black gown and embraced vibrant reds, pinks and coral. Leading the pack was January Jones in scarlet Prabal Gurung, while Claire Danes wore fire engine-red Givenchy and Christina Hendricks chose ruby Marchesa. At the rosier end of the colour spectrum, Zooey Deschanel chose magenta Oscar de la Renta, Julie Louis-Dreyfus was in crimson Carolina Herrera and Lena Dunham wore a rainbow of pink hues in her cascading Giambattista Valli Couture.
White gowns also enjoyed a red carpet renaissance, courtesy of Kate Mara, Michelle Monaghan, Lucy Liu, Sofia Vergara and Camila Alves – all of whom could have been walking down the aisle, rather than the red carpet, in their floor-length designs.
