An eating disorder is a mental disorder defined by abnormal eating habits that negatively affect a person’s physical or mental health.
Types of eating disorder include:
BINGE- this is a kind of eating disorder where people eat a large amount in a short period of time. Such people tend to eat in bits. “No o…I don’t eat much, just little”. To your amazement, such people might eat these bits up to 10 times, in less than an hour. Oh my God!(surprised).
ANOREXIA NERVOSA- where people eat very little, thereby, having a low body weight.
BULIMIA NERVOSA- where people eat a lot and then try to rid themselves of the food.
PICA- for such disorder, people eat non-food items.
RUMINATION- a kind of eating disorder where people regurgitate food.
AVOIDANT/RESTRICTIVE FOOD INTAKE DISORDER- where people have a lack of interest in food, and a group of other specified feeding or eating disorders.
SYMPOMS:
Anxiety disorders, depression, and substance abuse are common among people with eating disorders.
Treatment:
Counselling, proper diet, normal amount of exercise.
