5 new cases of the novel corona virus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in Nigeria. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to stay calm as public health response activities across the country are intensified.
Those affected by the new corona virus cases confirmed in nigeria have not been disclosed by the NCDC, although efforts are being made to trace and contact them.
“A detailed travel history of each case is being compiled & contact tracing has begun Our National Emergency Operations Centre is supporting response in the states. The Federal Government of Nigeria has also suspended the issuance of visas on arrival to travelers from these countries,” said Chikwe Ihekwazu, the Director General of the NCDC.
As of today, the Nigerian government has placed restrictions on countries with >1000 confirmed cases domestically.
These countries include France, China, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, Germany, United States of America, Netherlands, Switzerland, and United Kingdom.
The Nigerian Federal Government also suspended the issuance of a visa upon arrival to travelers from those countries.
All travelers who have returned before the restriction from these countries will be in controlled self-isolation, supervised by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and Port Health Services.
The first case of the corona virus was announced in Lagos on the 28 of February. It’s been four weeks since then and it’s imperative that people continue to practice good hand washing routine and social distancing.
