Kikifoodies has taken a beloved Nigerian staple and given it a bold, flavour-packed upgrade with her Asun Jollof Rice. By combining the smoky heat of grilled goat meat with Nigeria’s iconic one-pot dish, she delivers a recipe that feels tailor-made for parties, celebrations, and special gatherings.
So what happens when you merge the world’s most loved Jollof rice with one of Nigeria’s favourite street foods, asun? The result is a rich, spicy, deeply satisfying dish that instantly stands out: Asun Jollof Rice.
Her process begins with goat meat, slowly boiled with onions, seasoning cubes, salt, and plenty of water. Thyme can be added for extra aroma. Once the meat is tender, it’s left to rest before being roasted until beautifully browned. Frying is an option, but roasting brings out that unmistakable asun flavour. Afterward, the meat is deboned, chopped into bite-sized pieces, and set aside—with considerable restraint.
The asun sauce is then prepared using blended peppers and onions, combined with a little goat stock, seasoning, and salt. This mixture is gently cooked over low heat until it becomes thick, spicy, and irresistible. At this stage, tasting can easily turn into snacking.
For the Jollof base, Kikifoodies keeps the pepper level balanced, allowing the asun to deliver most of the heat. A tomato-rich sauce cooked with onions, oil, seasoning, herbs, and goat stock sets the foundation. The rice is then added and cooked until fluffy, aromatic, and fully infused with flavour.
Finally, the asun is folded into the Jollof, transforming the pot into a vibrant, smoky, and comforting meal. Spicy in all the right ways, Asun Jollof Rice is one of Kikifoodies’ favourite Nigerian fusion creations—and it’s easy to understand why.
