The inspiration for this collection this season came from a trip to the Senegalese island of Saint-Louis, where the collection’s appliquéd starched brocade was made and which supplied Olowu with his Spring ’15 palette. He also cited the cover art for the album The Pointer Sisters, Ozu’s film Drunken Angel and Japanese film noir in general and 1940s pinups as inspirations. The retro influence is apparent in the signature multi print tea dresses and the styling of his lookbook where his modern prints are in contrast to the chintz settee.
