Being a designer involves so much creativity and commitment and only a determined person can surely make it work. Exquisite Magazine had an interview with KrisAsimonye, a fashion designer and she shares her thoughts on how her journey has been.

  1. HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR JOURNEY BEGIN?

My journey as a fashion designer professionally started in 2018.

I had learnt tailoring in 2009, but then I got married, started having kids, I had to take care of my kids and family.

I honestly didn’t like tailoring so I ran away from it lol. When I had my last child, I knew it was time to start my career. But I have never been a nine to five, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit from childhood.

I prayed and asked God for his direction, I wanted him to show me what he really wanted me to do knowing that I have always been hands-on. I hadn’t discovered my passion, I didn’t really know myself at the time. I genuinely wanted to major in fashion merchandising but God sent me back to production, his voice was loud and clear in my head.

October 1st 2018, I launched Goodgirlcode as an online ready-to-wear brand. A few months after, I realized I had zero ideas for what I had started. In April 2019, I left for the UK. I had attended the London College of fashion where I studied the Business of fashion and Fashion design.

I came back to Nigeria with more clarity, more direction and 3 years later, here we are.

  1. WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BEST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?

People walking up to me saying well done. I remember when you started, you have done so well. It’s overwhelming because every day I tell myself “you have a lot of work to do”.

  1. WHAT’S BEEN YOUR WORST MOMENTS AS A DESIGNER?

I honestly haven’t had the worst moments. I have however had bad days, like a client not being happy with her outfit and that makes me sad very sad. I make sure you go all out to fix the issue.

  1. ON A SCALE OF 1-10, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RESPONSE FROM CUSTOMER SATISFACTION?

I’d say 8 😁

Honestly, the number 1 thing I would say makes my clients happy with my delivery is my customer service. I am very, very, very, very particular about my service to my clients.

I can genuinely count the number of clients that left unhappy.
