The nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards, honoring the best in television, were announced on Tuesday morning. This will be the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The nominees for this year’s show were announced by J.B. Smoove and Melissa Fumero, alongside Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, who revealed the nominees in a live virtual ceremony.
HBO’s “Succession” came out on top with a total of 25 nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso” and HBO’s “The White Lotus” were close behind, with both earning 20 nominations each.
According to Variety, “Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson made history by becoming the first and youngest Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy acting category. She is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Writing for a Comedy Series.
Squid Game also made history by becoming the first non-English language show to earn an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Lee Jung-jae landed a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor while Park Hae-soo and HoYeon Jung secured Best Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress.

The 74th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Monday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. on NBC and will also stream live for the first time on Peacock. So far, no host has been announced.
