The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has announced Mrs. Ezeoma Ezeibe as its new president — making her the third woman to hold the position in the Council’s 63-year history.

According to a statement released on Saturday, Ezeibe will be officially sworn in on October 24, 2025, in Lagos.

A seasoned insurance lawyer and broker, Mrs. Ezeibe has served in various leadership capacities within the NCRIB, including as Vice President and Deputy President. Her tenure on the Council’s Governing Board has earned her a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and commitment to industry growth.

“Her extensive knowledge of insurance law, integrity, and solid professional network will further strengthen the Council’s position among Nigeria’s professional bodies,” the statement read. “She will also build on her wide industry acceptance and long-standing contributions to all arms of the sector.”

Early Life and Education

Born a princess, Ezeibe attended Holy Rosary Secondary School, Umuahia, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel College, Emekuku, Owerri, where she obtained her West African School Certificate. She later studied Law at the former Imo State University (now Abia State University) over four decades ago.

After earning her LL.B 39 years ago, she proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, where she obtained her B.L and was called to the Bar 38 years ago. She went on to earn a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Lagos.

Career Journey

Ezeibe began her insurance journey during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in the Legal Department of Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation (Nigeria Re) in 1987/1988. After completing her service, she was retained at Nigeria Re, working closely with the renowned Professor Joe Irukwu, SAN, whose mentorship profoundly shaped her early career.

In 1991, she joined Liberty Assurance Company Limited as Company Secretary, Legal Adviser, and Head of Claims Department, and a year later, she became the pioneer Company Secretary and Legal Adviser at Industrial & General Insurance Company Limited (IGI).

She later co-founded Crystal Trust Insurance Brokers Limited with her husband, where she currently serves as Managing Director/CEO.

Professional Qualifications and Achievements

Ezeibe’s professional achievements are as impressive as her career trajectory. She is:

  • An Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), London, with distinctions in Claims Practice and Advanced Strategic Risk Management.

  • An Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).

  • A Fellow of the Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (CRIB).

A passionate educator and advocate, she has delivered over 40 pro bono lectures on insurance law, regulation, and compliance for platforms including NCRIB, CIIN, the Insurance Industry Consultative Council (IICC), and the African Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA), among others.

For the past nine years, she has been a vocal advocate for the NCRIB’s involvement in shaping the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act, 2025, and for 14 years, she has been an award-winning lecturer in Marine Insurance at the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping.

Leadership and Impact

Within the NCRIB, Ezeibe has served in several executive positions — Honorary Treasurer (2017–2019), Vice President (2021–2023), and Deputy President (2023–2025).

Her influence extends across key industry bodies such as the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and the Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA).

At the continental level, Ezeibe has made history as the first female Vice Chair of the African Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA). She previously served as the association’s Secretary (2022–2024) and Treasurer (2024–2025).

Additionally, she played a key role in the formation of the Africa Insurance Women Association, contributing to its constitution drafting and officiating the inauguration of its first president, the late Margaret Moore, in May 2023 in Algiers, Algeria.

Mrs. Ezeibe’s ascension to the NCRIB presidency marks another milestone in her trailblazing career — one defined by excellence, leadership, and a lifelong dedication to advancing the insurance profession in Nigeria and beyond.
