Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, has in a recent interview explained why he returned to his “first love”, music with the release of his album, ‘Yabasi’. The album also serves as a soundtrack to his new comedy series, Papa Benji.

The Yabasi album, which has received prises from both industry practitioners and music lovers nationwide, is his debut album.

In his words, “I started working on the project called Papa Benji, it’s an online comedy series and it’s situated in a beer parlour and one thing in a beer parlour apart from beer is music, so I started running around meeting artistes telling them ‘I need your song’.”

The interview with Pulse, also saw Basketmouth talking about his first venture into music, through a rap group called ‘The Psychopaths’.

However, his rap career didn’t really take a turn for the better and in the late 90s, he was convinced to venture into comedy. He says this newfound career path “was so divine”.
