If ingenuity and creativity were the key determinants of the winner of the Baileys Bakefest, then Tolu Samaiye and Alexx Ekubo rule supreme – and they did. The Covenant University graduate along with her celebrity pair, Alexx Ekubo were declared winners of the first ever celebrity bakeoff which featured Mai Atafo, Funke Akindele and Waje.

CELEBRITIES AND UPCOMING BAKERS PRESENTING THEIR BAILEYS INFUSED TREATS TO THE JUDGES
#BakefestTeamAlexxAndTolu was able to brilliantly incorporate popular Nigerian staples like semolina and kulikuli into established dessert ingredients like whipped cream and fruits. Let’s not forget Tolu’s entry video for the Baileys Bakefest. This lady made a dessert from yet another Nigerian staple, pap; or ogi or akamu or akamu depending on where in Nigeria you come from.
Regardless of where you come from, we can agree that Tolu Samaiye is not only limitlessly talented but a deserving winner of the Baileys Bakefest. She not only managed to demonstrate the versatility of Baileys; she also effectively showcased our local foods in ways no one thought possible. Her dexterity and guts to dare what has never been done may signal the beginning of a revolution in culinary habits and skills of Nigerians and probably Africans.
