Recently, Tiwa Savage announced her new hashtag WeAreTired in response to many recent mishaps. The latest of these being the rape and murder of Uwaila Omozuwa. She explains that while people might not be able to riot now, there’s a great deal that social media activism can do.

Nigerians in their thousands have began to utilize the WeAreTired tag in their posts on similar issues as was intended by the singer who seems to be passionate about the cause. in a passionate plea, Tiwa said that Nigerians are tired of making the same complaints over and over again.

She is right!

The hashtag serves as a call for change in the status quo of injustice that has long plagued the nation.

Tiwa Savage spoke in a video on her Instagram page where she thanked those using the WeAreTired hashtag, while further explaining its importance. This hashtag gives a new insight to the trending rape, police brutality et al discussions on social media. A step in the right direction. One we applaud!

Lots of other celebrities like Don Jazzy have also joined in making the hashtag trend all over social media.

There is still a lot to be done to improve the level of our activism as a nation. However, steps like Tiwa’s #WeAreTired are what we need to reach there.

Lately, a couple of celebrities have come under heat on their social media pages for their support or non-support for various campaigns against rape, injustice among several others. This also was the case with Singer Tiwa Savage who recently hit out at critics who have attacked her new #WeAreTired movement
