CEO of Ebonylife Productions, Mo Abudu video comes forward to address the allegations of copyright infringement made against the production company by Tobore Ovuorie over the production of the movie, ‘Òlòturé’.
After the successful release of Oloture on Netflix in the last quarter of 2020, allegations of copyright infringement have been made by via social media by investigative journalist, Tobore Ovuorie, regarding the movie.
The movie which is centred around the process of human trafficking and prostitution in foreign countries, was claimed to have been copied without due credit, from an article written by Ovourie in 2012 – “Inside Nigeria Ruthless Human Trafficking Mafia.”
In the video release of Mo Abudu, she says:
“We sought and obtained the right from Premium Times, the owners of the story, as such, we fulfilled our legal obligation and do that take kindly to suggestion stating otherwise. There are several instances where we have acquired the rights to other stories and plays, such as “Green Hunter“, “Death and the King’s Horseman” and “Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives“. This is how our industry works, we dare not make a film without acquiring the rights”
