Produced by Niyi Akinmolayan for Anthill studios, Elevator Baby follows the story of Dare (Timini Egbuson), a privileged young man with a fiery temper, who gets stuck in an elevator with a semi-literate pregnant woman (Toyin Abraham).

As she goes into labour in the lift, Dare is left with no choice but to try and save both mother and child.

Elevator Baby was made available on Netflix about two weeks ago and has steered quite the conversation online with the leading question being:

How would you feel if your mother gets back into the dating pool after the death of your dad?

Personally, I wonder why this should even be up for debate or any discussion at all. Shouldn’t the happiness of your mum come first before anything? Maybe not, for some people.

The takes and opinions of some Twitter users, I soon realised, were stemmed deeply in Misogyny (the dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women) and Culture.

A culture that constantly puts the feelings of a man or a husband first before the woman/wife even at his death.
