The city of Telangana, India, came to a standstill yesterday as the curtain fell on the 72nd Miss World pageant. Amid dazzling performances and heartfelt moments, Thailand’s Opal Suchata was named the new Miss World, emerging victorious from a field of 108 contestants representing countries across the globe.
Spanning the entire month of May, the prestigious competition showcased not just beauty, but also dedication to public service and cross-cultural unity. Contestants took part in various fast-track events—including Top Model, Talent, Multimedia, and Beauty With a Purpose—that allowed standout participants to secure early spots in the later rounds.
The top 40 quarter-finalists were then selected through these challenges and in-depth interviews with the judging panel. They were divided into four continental groups: Africa, the Americas & Caribbean, Europe, and Asia & Oceania.
From this pool, 20 advanced to the semi-finals, including Nigeria’s Joy Mojisola Raimi. Ultimately, eight finalists were chosen, leading to the announcement of the four continental queens. Representing Africa, 19-year-old Hasset Dereje of Ethiopia captured hearts and clinched the title of Miss World Africa, earning her a place in the final round alongside delegates from Martinique, Poland, and Thailand.
In the decisive moment of the night, the finalists each faced a question from the judges, challenging them to express their values, vision, and social purpose. Their answers played a crucial role in determining the final outcome.
Thailand’s Opal Suchata emerged as Miss World 2025, with Ethiopia’s Hasset Dereje finishing as first runner-up—a historic achievement for her country. She was followed by Poland’s Maja Klajda in third place and Martinique’s Aurélie Joachim in fourth.
In her first words as Miss World, Opal delivered an inspiring message:
“This moment is not just a personal victory—it’s a shared dream for every girl who wants to be seen, heard, and become a force for change.”
