Sophie Zinga was one of the designers chosen to be part Vogue’s emerging Talent 2014 and has just presented her collection as part of Vogue’s talent corner in Milan.

The brand recently partnered with the Ethical fashion initiative which is a UN entity which links the world’s top fashion talents to marginalize artisans in East and West Africa, Haiti and the West Bank. The brand is based in Dakar Senegal where all production takes place.

Sophie Zinga will be showcasing at the Lagos Fashion & Design Week next in October.

Sophie Zinga’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection is inspired by Abyssinia, home of East Africa’s most ancient civilization. The collection features the widely referenced cross from Ethiopia’s Orthodox Church which is interpreted as symbols and geometrical shapes onto structured frocks and jumpsuits.

The crosses are delicately hand embroidered while staying true to the brand’s minimalistic aesthetic. The collection features fabrics like double face satin, organza or “bazin” which is a West African staple fabric used in ceremonies across West Africa. It also features hand died fabric sequins and delicate organza appliques which express a fresh contemporary style.
