Nigerian fashion design label Fruché has just released the look book for its spring/summer 2015 collection, entitled “Bastille”. Fruché ss15 draws inspiration from British rock band, Bastille. The Creative director of the brand; Frank Aghuno was very much inspired by their style of music.
He was mostly intrigued by their remixes and covers of pop songs and the way the band gave them an ethereal vibe. The look-book is a collaboration with the creative director’s twin brother; Fred Aghuno who is an artist. He hand painted the three backgrounds, which are inspired by the colors, prints and patterns in the collection.

Fashion consultant Alero weighs in her opinion on this collection.

“The first thing I noticed when I saw this collection was the trendy use of monochrome colours for both the styling and the collection pieces. The next thing I did was Google the meaning of Bastille; the titled name for the collection, and what I found was pretty interesting .

Louise XIV (The king of France and Navarre between 1614 – 1715) used the Bastille as a prison to detain the upper class members of the French society who angered him or opposed his reign (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastille) plus it was generally a state prison. Prisoners are also known to wear horizontal black and white stripes, which psychologically had the effect of making them stand out and be easily identified.

Minus the prisoner label, let’s take a look at the creative angles here. A pretty good designer would definitely need his/her designs to stand out and be easily identified. This is what I believe these pieces would do to its wearer, and also might explain part of the inspiration behind the collection. From its daring asymmetrical cuts, plunging necklines, which definitely aren’t for the faint- hearted, to its bold monochrome stripes, one would definitely stand out.

I love how the pieces were styled; loved the background and how it doesn’t distract the eye from the pieces. Kudos to the styling team. In essence, this collection would personally be so great on a petite – medium sized lady, whom I believe would do the pieces beautiful justice.”
