Is Shopping Enough To Fill The Void?

Have you ever been sad, depressed, lonely or just heartbroken and your friends just go “You should go shopping, that will cheer you up”? So many times when you are in a bad place, the necessity to just take things more selfishly is needed, you need to express love for yourself and appreciate yourself a lot more it is referred to as “self-love”.
According to the study published in the Journal of Psychology and Marketing in the U.S ‘Retail therapy purchases were overwhelmingly beneficial, leading to mood boosts and no regrets or guilt.’ And this tends to be rested on the fact that from time to time it is important to show a little extra love for one’s self.

Now the question is, Is shopping enough to fill the void? I am not exactly sure that is enough to fill in the emotional void, but it sure is a distraction and mostly that is what people need in their time of need. There are people that slightly over do it by just investing so much time into shopping and before you know it, Asos.com, Kaymu.com.ng or Boohoo.com is their place of solace. The issue with such thing mostly is the fact that it is never healthy to invest in something as superficial as shopping because when the addiction sets in and like every other addiction you think you are normal it begins to tell on you. Before you know it, you are way deep and you cannot get yourself out. Instead of speaking to a friend when you are in need, the best remedy is to go shopping whether you have the finances or not.

As a matter of fact the reason people say whatever is done should be done in moderation is simply because there is absolutely nothing that is done excessively that is healthy, over time it either becomes an obsession or an addiction either ways it does not go well. Of Course it is called retail therapy for a reason, it might be the required boost to impress at an interview, to slam a presentation at work, or even come up with the creative juice for a pending Job but the reality of it all is that the whole process of buying is where the adrenaline lies. You see a new dress you like, you buy it and anticipate the day you finally wear the dress, obviously the fact that it is yours is enough to keep you going but after that dress then what? Because in reality one can only have that satisfactory feeling for a while and then it disappears.

I am a huge fan of shoes, as a matter of fact, if I had my way any shoe I come across would be mine simply because I live and love them in ways I cannot understand and time over I have been lured into buying more shoes than I thought necessary but I am aware that I cannot shop outside my budget every month which does upset me from time to time but it is the reality of things.

The truth is, with the way things are easy and available Online it is even harder to resist the excess spending but you have to realize that it is not healthy to put in so much energy into materialism because it prevents you from being very budget cautious and in your mind all you are constantly thinking your excuse is “I am doing this for myself”.
Truth be told, Shopping does help you feel better and less sad but it does not fill the void, it only takes your mind off the situation for a while. It might be a cheaper psychiatrist, but it sure is a more expensive therapy in the long run.
