STYLE DANGER.

STYLE DANGER.

Has our style become a healthy hazard?
As we all know ladies love their oversized bags, killer heels, bug-eye sunglasses and skinny jeans. But could these be more harmful to our health than we realise?

Weaves
If done too tightly, hair weaves can cause headaches, irritation and serious pains. They can also make hairlines recede and cause a major strain on the natural hair it’s sown on to. Find a hairdresser who can give you that movie star look, without causing too much pain. I know they say that fashion knows no pain, but in the realm of hair weaves IT DOES!

Nails
Most women don’t know that acetone (chemical ingredients in nail vanish) can have harmful effects due to long-term use. Skin irritation, peeling and itching can ensue after constant exposure to acetone over the year. Look for a natural varnish with minimal chemical content. Go to your local beautician and discuss it, and do some research online.

Killer heels
This has to be one of the most hazardous of all these wardrobe items. After all, if a lady is out in public, she can’t just take off her heels if they’re too painful she has to suffer in them till she gets to her car or home! It’s important to pick comfortable heels that aren’t too limiting and restricting for the feet. Many women like to pick heels that are too small because they make their feet look smaller and more girlish. Please ignore this theory because men aren’t looking at your feet, they’re looking at you! When worn regularly, restrictive killer heels can give you bunions and backaches. Is style worth that fate?

Sunglasses
We all know that sunglasses look hot (especially the bug-eye ones) but do we know about the consequences?
Sunglasses that pinch the ears or the bridge of the nose can affect the movement of the nasal and temporal bones. This can lead to long-term headaches and sinus problems. Make sure your shades have strong UV protection, otherwise you risk getting “photokeratitus”, which is literally sunburn of the eye OUCH! Try to get your shades professionally fitted and make sure they have at least 99% UV protection!

Heavy Dangling Earrings
I once met a lady at a party who had huge gaping holes in her ears after a lifetime of wearing heavy dangling earrings. The straight narrow hole went right down to the bottom of her earlobe; making it look as though her ears had been cut in half with a knife it wasn’t pretty! If your earrings are too heavy, don’t wear them! If something feels painful (especially in a sensitive and delicate area like the ears) then STOP wearing it. After all, you don’t want ears like that lady I met, believe me!

Platform shoes – who can wear them? When? And how?

Platform shoes – in fashion? Out of fashion? Who can wear them? With what? And when?
Well, to take things in order – platforms, like miniskirts and Capri pants (both of which look good with platforms, by the way), are one of those fashion items eternally loved by some, hated by others, but which always seem to be around in some form or other. So – in fashion? Yes. If you like them, keep on wearing them.

But are there any rules about who can wear them? Are they only for short girls? Definitely not. Tall girls can, and do, wear them, too. (I’m 5’9″, and until recently platforms were the only shoes I owned.) The only people who should not wear platforms are people who find themselves unable to walk in them – if you have difficulty walking or trouble with your balance, you should stick to flats or at least lower-heeled (1″-2″) platforms.
Are there any fashion rules about what outfits you can wear with platforms? Not really – there are almost as many styles of platform shows as there are outfits to wear them with. Strappy sandals, thongs, chunky Mary Janes, boots from ankle to thigh-high, even platform sneaker. Match the style to the outfit (formal, casual, etc.) and the platform itself will only enhance the look you are trying to create.
trends and tips
Just a few suggestions for platforms and certain body types: if you have particularly chunky legs, you should probably avoid wearing platforms with shorter skirts as they may draw too much attention to this feature. With anything mid-calf length or below, though, you should be okay with platforms. And if you have, um, larger-sized feet (I wear a size nine), you might find that a round-toed style (such as a platform Mary Janes) makes your feet look just a little smaller. (At least, I like to think so!)
Finally, when should you avoid wearing platform shoes? Well, platforms are probably not the best choice for a job interview, at least for one in a conservative, corporate setting. You might also not want to wear platforms if you are going out on a date (especially a first date) with a shorter man in case he is sensitive about the height difference.

You should also check the weather conditions before going outside in those platforms – on icy sidewalks it can be hard enough to maintain your balance without having to deal with those extra few inches of height. If it’s pouring rain, however, and if you’re not worried about your shoes getting wet, then go for it! After all, platform soles originated hundreds of years ago as a way for people to splash through puddles without getting the hems of their clothing wet.

One final circumstance in which you should avoid platforms is when you are carrying a baby or small child in your arms. That’s what finally did it for me and my all-platform shoe collection – I wore my platforms through all nine months of pregnancy (although I probably shouldn’t have), and I wore them for the first nine months of my son’s life when he was still small enough for me to tote around in a baby carrier (the kind that doubles as a car seat). Now that I’m carrying him in my arms every day, though, I have (sigh!) banished platforms from my wardrobe for the time being. Better safe than fashionable. Luckily, there are also a lot of really cute flats out there”¦

JEANS

Tips On Getting Your Pair

What makes the perfect pair of jeans?

• A zip-fly is less bulky and more flattering than a button-fly.
• Stretch jeans are comfortable but beware super-stretchy jeans are a no-no if you’re larger; they’ll cling to your lumps and bumps.
• With heels, jeans should be half an inch above the floor and cover the front of your foot.
• Always get a professional to alter your jeans.
• DON’T buy it if it ‘gapes’, check for ‘gape’ at the back, if it’s too wide around the waistband then it’s notthe right fit. denim jeans
Managing your assets: tips for choosing YOUR pair of jeans.
Always consider your body length and shape before buying your jeans.

How High?

Try to match the length of the jean from crotch to waistband to your figure. There are different types of jeans for different body shapes.
1. Super High jeans are great for leg lengthening.
2. High-rise jeans are great for long bodies (note the lower the waist, the shorter your legs will look) and for flattering tummies. If you are conscious of a big tummy, this style jean will help eliminate bulges.
3. Medium High jeans are great for curvy bodies.
4. Low to medium High jeans are great for flattening bottoms.
5. Low jeans are great for flat tummies.
6. Very Low jeans are best for short bodies and boyish figure.

Bootylicious

Your backside should be the first thing you look out for when trying on a pair of jeans- the right fit can be divine and the wrong pair can create a totally different illusion.

• For larger bottoms, try low and bigger back pockets
• Only smaller and petite bottoms can get away with small back pockets, they only exaggerate the size of bigger bottoms so no-no.
• Jeans with no back pockets are a complete no-no for anyone.

Great Legs.

• If you’re tall, look for longer jeans and team with flats (or not).

Tip: Tall women look great in cropped styles.
• Smaller and petite women should wear long jeans.
Tip: Team with them with fabulous heels.
• For our voluptuous ladies, go for styles that flare slightly from the top of the leg and have slight fading down the front of the thigh.
Tip: Go for jeans that look darker on the inside and outside of the leg, so your legs look slimmer.

How wide???

With so many cut jeans out there, it’s no wonder we get a little confused. Here are guides on choosing which width to wear with what.

Skinny jeans

Wear boots over skinny jeans, or if you prefer, ballet flat will give the extra skinny look.
Boot cut jeans
Are great for everyday jeans and good for balance think thighs.

Flared

This is fabulous fashion style jeans, team with great heels and fitted tops.

Wide leg

These types of jeans are perfect for lounging, perfect with flip flops or trainers.
